A memorial marker with an American Flag will be used to honor deceased individuals who have served honorably in one of the branches of the Armed Services of these United States of America. The marker is designed to be placed along the streets and roads of Dahlonega/Lumpkin County, Georgia for Memorial Day, Veteran's Day and the 4th of July (or any other time designated by the memorial committee). Each marker will be placed at 10 yard intervals, 3 to 4 feet from the roadway. Name facing the direction of traffic beginning on the Lumpkin County square.
The Memorial Marker Committee is comprised of members of the Blue Mountain Lodge #38, the Lumpkin County Veteran's Committee, and the U.S. Mountain Ranger Association. It shall be the job of the committee to review the applicants and select those individuals qualifying for a marker. The committee shall then order the constructing and use of the same. They shall be responsible for the collection of any and all donations and the disbursement of these funds in payment for services rendered in the construction and maintenance of the markers.
Criteria: Listed below are the determining criteria for those individuals qualifying for a memorial marker.

Served, with honor, in a branch of the us armed services.

The relative/individual, requesting a memorial marker, shall be a county tax payer.

DD214, discharge paper, military id, service number or a official military document indicating honorable service

Memorial marker construction: there will be a single marker for each individual and will include the following:

2" vinyl letters (maybe smaller in order to accommodate a longer name) to include rank, full name, branch, war

Markers will indicate KIA, POW, or MIA as appropriate.
Criteria: The following information will be used to help determine the eligibility of an individual:

The person making the request must be a Lumpkin county taxpayer.

Presentation of official documentation or other evidence acceptable to the selection committee of the veteran's eligibility.
Costs: A one time donation of $60.00 is requested for each marker to assist in deferring the marker costs.
