Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: ron rice Message: to continue. whe i arrived at mrc our camp first sgt was named mayhew a non ranger and a leg. however that is not meant to disrespect him in no way. he was a good man and some time later we had a ret party for him. there was only about 3-4 civilians that worked at the camp. the officers cleaned their own quarters and i don't recall it being called the snaplink. it was a wooden structure and painted green on located on the right coming into camp. the barracks was cleaned by whomever lived there and when i was first stationed there i lived in them. don stafford always carried 2 lbs of chicken gizzards in his field pants pocket on every patrol he graded. i would always like to be the friendly partisan. i was the one who had the live chickens in wooden crates with a swing open door on top. the ranger patrol would link up with me somewhere in those beautiful mtns.. anyway, this one particular time it had rained for 2 days and these patrols would come in wet and hungry. we allowed them to build a fire and cook the chickens. they could not get a fire started (they just did not know about bark and pine knots) so the patrol leader said i want the chickens and i said there they are in that cage. i had turned it upside down with the door open and when he lifted the cage the chickens got loose and took off. it was a site for the story books. ranger students trying to catch those chickens. finally one caught one and killed it and this is the God's honest truth he started eating raw chicken. to DOUG PERRY everything i said about you was meant as a compliment and once again congratulations to you. i will sign off now and hope to see all you crazy, dedicated rangers someday in Heaven. take care ya hear!
