Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mark Jordan Message: Steve Bishop...call me please...I have a plan... ...and another matter...someone done stole my coin...I have searched since the Fish Fry...til 5 am that night and all thru my truck too...it has been stolen...worse than a remote, much worse... Ted Tilson, man of few words that he is, honored me with some words I'll never forget...and Roderick witnessed it all... ..."you were an officer with the heart of an NCO" ...nothing has honored me more...ever... ...Ted and Terry pull out a Papa Ranger Co coin and give it to me... ...and for the rest of the night, keeping JQ from missing his ezra, listening to all the good stories, I kept my hand on the coin...so appreciative of the day... ...as I avoid snores I find a cot with no one too near and pat all my pockets, getting ready for sleep... ...no coin... ...seriously, the coin was not with me... ...so I search my steps til 5am...Steve Bishop is up for the breakfast at 4... ...so...should the person who found my stolen Papa Ranger coin be kind to alert me, I will forever be in your debt...harumpf harumpf...that's all I got to say... *RLTW* Mark |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Ken Bonnell, LTC (Ret) Message: All Rangers, I am still trying to locate retired Ranger Samuel Eads. He was with me in Vietnam in 1969 with the 34th Vietnamese Ranger Battalion. He received the Silver Star at Loc Ninh in Aug-Sep 1969 for leading a bayonet charge with our lead Ranger Company preventing an ambush set for a troop of the 2/11th ACR. He was a Staff Sergeant when I left Vietnam in October, 1969. He was also a Ranger Instructor and an Airborne Instructor at Benning for many years. Please contact me if you know of his whereabouts. Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Michael Keohane Message: Now, they change the requirements. I was not able to take the Ranger course because, under the then requirements, I could not do the times swim. I was reading a discussion about female Rangers and one guy posted the current requirements, including this : 3. The final assessment is the Removal of Equipment and 15 Meter Swim. Equipment Removal: starting at the side of the pond the candidate will enter the water and immediately submerge, discard rifle and remove LCE then begin the 15 meter swim. The 15 Meter Swim out of the pond is conducted wearing ACUs and boots. (NO PFD) Any swim stroke is authorized except the back stroke. Drat, no time requirement and only 15 meters, at 73, I can still do it and could have done it wayback when. |
