CSM Stanley Fox retired from the U.S. Army, where he served with distinction. He was a U.S. Army Ranger (Airborne) and Vietnam Veteran who had many assignments across the world, mostly with the Army’s elite 75th Ranger Regiment. Stanley had many commendations and awards, including a Bronze Star Medal, a Purple Heart Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal, and many more. He graduated from Ranger School in September of 1965. Ranger Stanley Fox performed his Initial Manifest Call on July 18, 1942, in Mountain Cove, West Virginia. He enlisted in the United States Army following high school and served proudly for over 27 years. During his military career, Ranger Fox gained technical, tactical, and leadership knowledge through various military assignments. Some notable assignments were 2nd Infantry Division, 25th Infantry Division, MACV (Vietnam), 1st Cavalry Division, 2nd Ranger Company, 1st Battalion 75th Ranger, 3rd Battalion 75th Ranger, and the 75th Ranger Regiment. From the beginning to the end, Ranger Fox served with dignity and distinction, echoing all the attributes of an Army Leader. His character was never questioned. He always enforced the Army values and possessed empathy for others, but he further maintained discipline and humility. His presence met all the criteria: Military and Professional Bearing, Fitness, Confidence, and Resilience. And the last attribute that Ranger Fox possessed was intellect, for he constantly displayed sound judgment and was a subject matter expert in his field. I had the distinct pleasure of serving with Ranger Fox, here at the Mountain Ranger Camp, with 2nd Ranger Company and also with Alpha Company, 1st/75th Ranger Battalion. Both times, he was my First Sergeant. I can still remember him telling me, " If you don’t know something, ask if you think you know, don’t ask. Take ownership.” CSM Stanley L.
